In an interview to promote the re-release of eight remastered Kraftwerk albums, Ralf Hütter confirmed a new studio album is in the making.

To promote the band’s re-release of eight remastered studio albums, this month’s MOJO magazine features an exclusive interview with Kraftwerk’s Ralf Hütter – co-founder and last man standing of electronic music’s legendary original pioneers. Celebrating the imminent reissue of their remastered back catalog, Hütter guides MOJO through 40 years of technological experimentation and musical barrier-breaking.

“We worked like a theatrical company, like craftsmen,” reveals Hütter. “Not the usual teenage boy group.”

Their peerless run of albums, from 1974’s Autobahn to 2003’s Tour De France Soundtracks, has seen the German collective rocket pop music into the future. Throughout it all, Kraftwerk have maintained their status as relentless innovators and conceptual trailblazers, mesmerizing the likes of David Bowie and Iggy Pop.

Hütter also confirmed the making of a new album. “Once we’ve done this festival tour, when we get back to Dusseldorf, we can close the doors of the studio and start continuing with the next album. We always have ideas, scripts, test tracks.” He also said it will be an album with a very strong forward thinking concept.

Krafwerk’s remastered albums were released yesterday, with vinyl and box sets following next month.
